  • Compared with 1985, the offense profile of adjudicated delinquency cases ordered to formal probation showed greater proportions of person, drug, and public order cases in 2005.
  • Males account for the largest share of the formal probation caseload (76% in 2005), but the female share has grown since 1985, from 14% to 24%.
  • The age and race profiles of adjudicated cases ordered to formal probation changed little between 1985 and 2005.
